T&RA Centenary Celebration Summary

The proverbial bow was tied on the hugely successful Tennis & Rackets Association's Centenary Season with a sensational black tie party at the Hurlingham Club on April 26th. The season had been officially kicked off last November with a dinner for over 500 people at Lord's Cricket Ground.

On Wednesday the 23rd of April, 150 celebrants participated in the Golf Day at Walton Heath and the main draw in rackets began with first round "finalists" as contestants in the plate competition, hosted by St Pauls School. The Invitational Doubles Rackets competition was held concurrently as the top pairs in the world were invited to this competition. Mark Hue Williams and World Singles Champion Harry Foster beat Alex Titchener-Barrett and Tim Cockcroft 3-2. The main draw finalists were Nick Hutton and Simon Higson who beat the team of Charlie Braithewaite and Tim Drayson, also by a 3-2 score. The Plate competition was won by the team comprised of Mark Penna and George Tysoe.
