Manchester Gold Rackets recently concluded in the historic Manchester Tennis & Rackets Club on Blackfriars Road with some serious talent on hand. In attendance were many Mjolnirs including James Coyne, Richard Spender, Dom Wright, James Clements, Mark Farmiloe, Nick James, Nick Harding and Chris Wilson. Other players included Foster Cup title-holder Will Hopton, Alex Coldicott, Macunians Simon Shenkman and Jamie Bebb and Chicagoan Jeff Durkes (non-competing).

Local talent Simon Shenkman braced himself in singles play versus against Coyne and Hopton but won against both with superb shot making and retrieval skills to make the finals. In the meantime, Richard Spender (just off 6 months touring of Africa) made it past Farmiloe 3-0 to take on Shenkman. In the end, Shenkman shook off a 9-0 5th game deficit to win a gritty match.

The doubles finals saw Coyne and new Eton graduate Hopton take on Farmiloe and Bebb. The former team took home the hardware winning handily.

The Saturday evening Ball was a wonderful feast, full of fun and extremely well attended at the home of Club president Peter Ellis under a wonderful setting in the country. Any NARA member would be very much welcomed at this event in 2008 we are assured by tournament organizer Brendan Hegarty.
